Our summer programs start in June with an on-demand performance by Traveling Lantern Theatre. Learn more about all of our summer programs, including how to sign up or access them, at www.scld.org/kids-summer-2021.
The Online Summer Reading Challenge “Reading Colors Your World” begins June 1 and gives students the ability to track their reading minutes, earn badges, complete challenges, and get exclusive online content from Page Turner Adventures. Parents and students can sign up with Beanstack at https://scld.beanstack.org/reader365.
You can end the school year with a free virtual program from SCLD!
The Traveling Lantern Theatre program can be viewed as a virtual assembly, in individual classrooms, or simply shared with students and their families to celebrate the start of summer. Here is the description and details of the program, available as a streaming video performance.
Traveling Lantern Theatre: Sherlock Holmes Takes the Case
Solve a mystery with the world’s most famous detective! Something’s amiss, and now “the game’s afoot!” for the brilliant scientist and criminologist, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with his trusted companion, Dr. Watson, Holmes follows the clues and solves the mystery with the audience’s help. For grades K–5+
While our programs are online this summer, SCLD libraries are open to the public for browsing, borrowing, and using our computers. We are excited to welcome children and families back into the library and to help them find all the books they need to keep learning and growing over the summer.
Our librarians can also provide schools and classrooms with virtual visits to the library that include a short presentation on how to participate in summer reading. If you or a teacher in your school is interested in a virtual visit, please contact me to schedule.
